The music minor offers students a broad spectrum of the subject both as an art form and as a global “language.” Students are required to master the rudiments of musical theory and to emerge with a comprehensive view of music history as well as the fundamentals of informed listening. Students also study an instrument of their choosing and participate in one of the university’s performing ensembles. Given the prominence music continues to hold culturally, its interdisciplinary relationships make it well-suited to the interests of students majoring in a variety of fields and also offers students an outlet for artistic expression.
