This certificate was created in the belief that limited English should never be a barrier to receiving excellent and equitable care. There is a critical need for healthcare professionals who are proficient in medical Spanish and culturally sensitive. This program consists of two sequential, 7-week courses in online, asynchronous format designed for future and current healthcare professionals (dentists, doctors, emergency medical technicians, emergency responders, hospital administrators, medical assistants, nurses, nutritionists, physical therapists, physician assistants, social workers and others) at all levels in their education with a beginning to intermediate knowledge of Spanish. Students will engage in intensive listening, speaking, reading, and writing to acquire the medical terminology and cultural awareness to practice more ethical and inclusive patient care.
Students who complete the courses during their undergraduate or graduate program will earn a certificate in Spanish Language for Medical Professionals.
